Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package

The Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package – Skills Bootcamp is designed for existing heating engineers to be able to install air source heat pump technologies. This course also includes a minor electrical works module to be able to carry out basic electrical works and an introduction to domestic retrofit to give an overview of the retrofit options available for homeowners and a water regulation (bylaws) qualification, which is a pre-requisite to this heat pump qualification.

What is a Skills Bootcamp?

Free, flexible courses up to 16 weeks

Skills Bootcamps offer flexible courses of up to 16 weeks that are free to learners. If you are unemployed, self-employed or an employer looking to upskill your staff in electrical installation or green skills we have funding opportunities that can vastly reduce the cost of training with us and in some cases fully fund it*.

Who is it for?

The Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package is designed specifically for qualified plumbers, gas installation and maintenance engineers, and heating and ventilating (HVAC) installers.

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • Heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems evidenced either by Gas Safe (CENWAT), OFTEC (OFT10-105E or OFT15-108W), MCS (Heat Pump or Solar Thermal Hot Water) or HETAS (H004) registration.

What's included?

The course is designed to be delivered as follows:

Domestic Electrical Workshop

Allows heat pump installers to conduct basic minor electrical works.

Electrical Theory eLearning

eLearning introduces fundamental requirements for making additions or alterations to existing electrical circuits.

Water Regulations

Gives an understanding of water regulations/water bylaws.

Heat Pumps

Aimed at experienced heating installers who wish to expand their knowledge/skills to include fitting heat pumps in domestic and small commercial properties. Successful learners will also meet entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Introduction to Domestic Retrofit

Covers how to assess dwellings for retrofit (heat pumps), identify improvement options, design and specify energy efficiency measures. This knowledge goes hand-in-hand with heat pump installations to ensure they have the capacity to work efficiently.

Free to learners

As with all Skills Bootcamps, the Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package – Skills Bootcamp is free to learners. 

However, based on the size of the business, employers may have to pay a small contribution as outlined below.

SME Contribution: £155.80 (ex vat)

Large Employer Contribution: £467.40 (ex vat)
