To become an electrical apprentice, you will need to be employed in the electrical industry and be carrying out a suitable range of works to complete your knowledge and skills building under the supervision of a mentor. This electrical apprenticeship covers everything you need to be a domestic electrician. It is also fully funded meaning you won’t have to pay a penny. We can also help support your employer in ensuring they fully understand all the requirements and have everything in place to allow you to successfully complete this apprenticeship.

An electrician apprenticeship combines study and work experience that enables you to qualify as an electrician and start working. For electricians, this means working and learning on-the-job under the supervision of an experienced electrician while studying for a level 3 qualification.
Apprentice Electricians also earn a wage whilst they gain knowledge and develop their skills in the workplace working alongside an electrician as a mentor.
In order to start an apprenticeship you will need to be enrolled on an apprenticeship standard, which lists all the knowledge, skills and behaviours you will need to gain to be able to pass the apprenticeship.

As a level 3 programme we will want you to have maths and English at a minimum of Level 1. We will also carry out initial assessments to help us determine your level of maths and English and any help and support you may need will be agreed before you join the programme.
If you do not have level 2 English and maths, GCSE 4 or a C or above, you will need to complete functional skills. It is really important that you achieve any functional skills so that you can pass through the gateway to End Point Assessment (EPA)
It can take between 2 to 4 years dependent on previous qualifications gained to become an electrician. We can also recognise prior learning (RPL) which could reduce the length of your apprenticeship. We will explore this duding your initial assessments.
Again, this will depend on your RPL, but typically over a 4 year apprenticeship for apprentices new to the electrical industry, you will study towards a recognised qualification C&G 5357. There will be a mixture of different types of learning we will give you including, in centre face to face, virtual learning and e-learning modules.
 You will complete knowledge exams, assignments and projects in centre over an 18 month block release period, along with building a portfolio of your skills with guidance and help from your allocated Training Officer in the workplace.
You will also need to complete any maths and/or English functional skills you have been enrolled on to be gateway ready.

You will need to complete the C&G 5357 qualification (knowledge and skills elements) and any functional skills if you do not have any exemptions (GCSE 4 or C or above) to be able to pass through the gateway and go on to End Point Assessment which is the AM2 for electricians. On successful completion of the AM2, you will have completed your apprenticeship and be issued with an Apprenticeship completion Certificate.
There are various steps you can take to further your career, you may want to become an inspection and Testing engineer, an electrical engineer or even a designer. You may even decide to start your own business one day! There is no end to where you can take your career.
On completion of your apprenticeship you may wish to apply for an ECS Gold Card.

Our Mitre Court and Explorer 2 Facilities are just 2 minutes south of Gatwick Airport. They are comfortable, light and airy environments in which students can learn a wide range of practical and theory based skills.
Our brand new centre opened in July 2019 offering a full range of electrical courses for those based in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Northampton and all over the midlands region.
Our North West electrical training facility is situated just off Junction 10 of the M62 at Birchwood Park and is very accessible from towns such as Warrington, Manchester, Liverpool and Chester.
Phoenix House has raised the bar for electrical training centres in the UK. It’s situated east of Leeds, just off of the M1 / A1. This makes it easily accessible from Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, York, Harrogate and all over Yorkshire.
Our central London electrical training centre is conveniently located between Farringdon and City Thameslink stations. We have recently finished an exciting renovation of our London training centre meaning we can now deliver green skills training from London alongside our electrical training courses.
