Skills Bootcamps offer flexible courses of up to 16 weeks that are free to learners. If you are unemployed, self-employed or an employer looking to upskill your staff in electrical installation or green skills we have funding opportunities that can vastly reduce the cost of training with us and in some cases fully fund it*.

Who is it for?

The Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package is designed specifically for qualified plumbers, gas installation and maintenance engineers, and heating and ventilating (HVAC) installers.

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence
  • Heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems evidenced either by Gas Safe (CENWAT), OFTEC (OFT10-105E or OFT15-108W), MCS (Heat Pump or Solar Thermal Hot Water) or HETAS (H004) registration.

The course is delivered as follows:

Week 1 - In-Centre
  • Day 1 – BPEC Water Regulations Course
  • Day 2 – BPEC Accredited G3 Domestic Vented and Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems course
  • Days 3-5 – BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems
Week 2 - Break

There will be a break in the course for 1 week.

Week 3 - In-Centre
  • Day 6 – Electrical Fundamentals for Heat Pumps
  • Days 7-9 – BPEC Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits)
  • Day 10 – Putting theory to practice – Snerario-based learning to demonstrate you fully understand the processes and procedures.

On successful completion you will gain:

BPEC Water Regulations Certificate

This course covers the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (England & Wales), the Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014, and The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009. It meets the requirements of Water Regs UK on behalf of the water undertakers participating in the Water Industry Approved Plumbers’ Scheme (WIAPS). The course includes theoretical training and an assessment, ensuring participants understand and comply with water regulations.

BPEC Accredited G3 Domestic Vented and Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems

This qualification helps plumbers and heating engineers install vented and unvented domestic hot water storage systems in compliance with Building Regulations. It covers Approved Document G3, Part L1, and Part P of the Building Regulations for England and Wales, and Part J for Scotland. The course includes both practical and theory assessments.

BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems

Designed for practising plumbers and heating engineers, this qualification focuses on the design and installation of energy-efficient low temperature hot water heating systems, often using heat pumps as the heat source. It serves as a recommended prerequisite for further heat pump qualifications and includes theoretical training and assessments.

BPEC Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits)

This nationally recognised qualification covers the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. It is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and includes practical and theory assessments. Participants should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or relevant experience.

Electrical Fundamentals for Heat Pumps (No Qualification)

This course covers essential electrical knowledge for heat pump installations, including the origins of electricity, differences between single and three-phase systems, identifying looped supplies, and understanding earthing configurations. It also includes training on MCBs and RCBOs, polarity and continuity testing, fused spurs, control wiring, smart controls, neutral switching, and safe isolation.

Free to learners

As with all Skills Bootcamps, the Air Source Heat Pump Installer Package – Skills Bootcamp is free to learners. 

However, based on the size of the business, employers may have to pay a small contribution as outlined below.

SME Contribution: £230 (ex vat)

Large Employer Contribution: £690 (ex vat)
